New Title I Math Specialist

ESTACADA, Ore.—Jessica Miner will start as the new Title I Math Specialist this fall to improve student performance in mathematics for K-5 students. The State of Oregon recently allocated Title I funds allowing the district to hire this position. Title I funding assists schools with a high percentage of children from low-income families ensure they meet challenging academic standards.

Miner brings many years of valuable mathematics education experience to the position. She has spent the last eight years teaching in elementary, middle and high school classrooms. For the past year, she has been teaching fourth grade at River Mill Elementary School in Estacada. Miner began her teaching career at Helensview Alternative High School in Portland where she was a self-contained classroom teacher. She continued teaching at the middle and high school level, in both traditional and alternative environments before she relocated to Hermiston. In 2012, she began teaching at the elementary level at the Reynolds School District and spent four years teaching fourth and fifth grades in both the Spanish-Immersion track and the English-only track.

“I am very excited to take on this new role as an elementary math specialist,” Miner said. “I look forward to working closely with students on their math skills to improve their performance this year and for many years to come.”
