1/7 Reopening Update

Estacada School District Families,

On December 23rd, Governor Brown announced that the metrics that have bound our schools to Comprehensive Distance Learning are now shifting from a mandatory status to advisory. Our district leadership continues to work closely with building staff, public health, and the Oregon Department of Education to plan a thoughtful, efficient, and successful reopening.

As of today, January 7th, we are still in the process of collaboration and preparation. The Oregon Department of Education is also in the process of revising plans that we hope will support us in our goal of reopening safely and sooner than originally planned.

We will remain in Comprehensive Distance Learning at this time, but your child’s school will be reaching out with details on their reopening plans. Our schools will continue to work simultaneously with staff to prepare for reopening and monitoring the metrics and the continued adjustments that are occurring at the state level.

When we do begin to reopen, we will prioritize elementary hybrid reopening, and will move to reopen secondary schools at a later date still to be determined. The tentative dates for reopening at the elementary level are January 25th K-1, and February 8th 2nd-5th grade. Your child’s school will reach out with details on the level of reopening, the number of students that will be able to attend school, and more details on the reopening plan.

A variety of factors influenced this decision including parent and employee voice, but a primary factor is the research that has emerged suggesting that elementary students are less susceptible and less infectious than older students. Safety, research, and the feedback we have received from local, state, and community partners -including families- continue to influence our decisions. We will continue to communicate updates on this evolving situation.

Thank you again for your continued patience, perseverance, and focus on student learning. We share this as a top priority, and look forward to methodically returning students to in-person learning.

January 18th: No school district-wide (Tuesday through Friday school this week)
