Important COVID-19 Update

Important COVID-19 Update
Posted on 10/08/2020

On October 8th, Estacada School District was notified by Clackamas County Public Health that there has been a confirmed exposure of COVID-19 at River Mill Elementary School. That day, the individual with COVID-19 was contacted and is at home self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms. Every person who came in close contact with the individual has been notified and has been asked to begin self-isolation and symptom monitoring as of October 8th. In order to protect the privacy of the individual, this will be the only information released by the district about this individual.

For members of the school and greater community, we understand that this will cause concern. We are working closely with Clackamas County Public Health to take additional steps to protect the health of our community. Based on the recommendations from the County Public Health Department, the following initial measures and extra precautions are being put in place:

  • Limited in-person instruction for grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade will be canceled at both elementaries starting Monday, October 12th.

  • All elementary students will transition back to Comprehensive Distance Learning. Secondary level student instruction will continue as scheduled at this time.

  • Additional cleaning and thorough disinfecting will occur at River Mill and Clackamas River, and the buildings will be closed.

  • Impacted individuals that the health department determines to be a close contact (within 6 feet of the person with COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes) of the positive case have been contacted.

    • Individuals who are determined to be in close contact with the exposed individual have been contacted by the Clackamas County Health Department or the Estacada School District and will need to quarantine for two weeks.

We will continue to communicate with families and the community regarding the details of building closures. We apologize for the inconvenience of this closure, and we thank the community for continuing to do their part to protect themselves and others. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is through wearing a face covering, practicing physical distancing, and practicing good health hygiene habits. Be sure to wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid contact with people who have signs of illness. Stay home if you are feeling ill or have COVID-19 symptoms.
