School Closure For Staff Work Day

ESTACADA, Or.— All Estacada School District schools will be closed to students on Monday, March 9th for a staff professional development day. Monday will be utilized to allow our staff to proactively prepare for a potential extended school closure that may arise if a case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 enters our district community. At this time there are no known or suspected cases directly connected to Estacada School District staff or students. The district will continue to update stakeholders on any new developments. This school closure day will not need to be made up at the end of the year.

We are preparing for potential virtual school days in an abundance of caution and in accordance with the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation that all schools prepare for the possibility of extended remote learning that can ensure that education efforts continue. Providing a high-quality education to our students is always a top priority in our district, and with adequate preparatory time, we can work towards ensuring that learning can continue from home in the event of a local outbreak.

At this time our custodial staff are working diligently to sanitize all classrooms and buses daily, and are sanitizing high traffic areas multiple times a day. We are encouraging all students and staff to wash their hands regularly. We would also like to remind families that all students that have had a fever within the last 24 hours should not be sent to school. Thank you for your partnership in adhering to recommendations that can help keep our students and staff healthy and safe.

What To Expect:

On Tuesday, March 10th students will be coming home with the materials necessary to do virtual school days for up to a week of potential school closures. Elementary students will come home with a packet of work that is relevant to what they are currently learning in the classroom. Please keep this in a safe place in case a virtual school day is announced in the near future. Middle school and high school students will be coming home with a Chromebook (to be brought back to school each morning, and brought home each evening). If parents do not have internet access at home, students will have offline documents available in their Google Classroom. All students must contact their teacher(s) once within a 24 hour period in order to be in attendance for a virtual school day. Read additional virtual school day guidelines here:

If a case of coronavirus occurs in connection with our school community, we will follow public health guidelines regarding recommended school closures. A virtual school day will be thoroughly announced before it is put into place. We would like to remind families to have childcare plans in place if needed prior to potential school closures.

We would like to thank families for their attention, patience, and partnership. With proper preparation and planning, we can work to ensure that safety is preserved and high levels of learning continue to occur for all students.
