10.10 COVID-19 Update
Posted on 10/10/2020

The district would like to provide an update on the precautions and extra measures we are taking in collaboration with Clackamas County Public Health to protect our community after a COVID-19 exposure in our elementary school. We would also like to update our community on the status of COVID-19 in our schools.

As you are aware, we did have a confirmed case of COVID-19 at River Mill Elementary. The district was notified on Thursday, and district leaders worked swiftly to notify close contacts, close limited in-person learning at the elementary level, and notify families that day. The confirmed case was an adult, and no students were identified as close contacts during this exposure. Custodial staff were on-site Friday and impacted areas will continue to receive deep cleaning and disinfecting.

On October 10th the district was notified by Clackamas County Public Health of an additional confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Estacada School District. This case was also an adult, and the exposure occurred at the Estacada School District administrative office. The administrative office will be closed and those staff members will be working from home until further notice. This individual is self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms. Every person who came in close contact with this new case has been notified and has been asked to begin quarantine and symptom monitoring as of October 10th. Once again, no students were identified as close contacts. In order to protect the privacy of the individual, this will be the only information released by the district about this person.

On Thursday we announced that the small number of students receiving limited in-person instruction at the elementary level would be transitioning back to distance learning. That decision will be in effect until further notice. Limited in-person instruction will continue at the secondary level, and there remains no identified cross-over between the impacted adults and the staff or students at the secondary level.

We ask that as a community we show care and compassion for the impacted individuals. We wish them well, and we also ask for your continued support and flexibility for our students and teachers transitioning to distance learning on Monday. Thank you for doing your part to protect yourself and others.
